Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples DayWe will be coming together on June 21st to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at the beautiful beach site location of the 32 Ft Norman Frank Memorial Pole, 3535 Bayside Road, Courtenay, British Columbia.
Come Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on the Lands of the K'ómoks First Nation with Hereditary Chief Yax’nukwalas, K'ómoks & Pentlatch Hereditary Chief Namnam’am, Kerry Norman Frank. You are invited to connect with the beauty and power of K'ómoks and Pentlatch as we mark the Historic Opening of Queneesh House. We welcome Hereditary Chief Dick Dick Dawson, Hereditary Chief Robert Williams and Hereditary Chief Dicky Joseph to conduct the ceremonies. These respected leaders have long standing relationships with Hereditary Chief Kerry Norman Frank and our families. We are honoured to have them with us. This will be a cultural feast with fluent speakers and dancers who have dedicated their lives to the traditions of our people. Immerse Yourself in Indigenous Art, Culture, Language, Storytelling, Workshops & Dancing. Tour the K'ómoks Kus-Kus-Sum Estuary, Shell Middens & Fish Weir along the Comox Foreshore. Learn the Story of the Frank Memorial Pole—Carved by Tlingit Kwaguʼł Master Carver, Tommy Hunt Jr., Waławidi & the Legends Behind the Many Masks & Artworks on Display by some of the most Celebrated First Nation Artists and Carvers on the West Coast. Take in the visual feasts of the day, the stories and teaching of the Knowledge Keepers and honoured guests, the smell of salmon smoking in the pit cook on the beach and the many mingled scents and sounds of a vibrant day of Indigenous culture on the K'ómoks foreshore. About K’ómoks First Nation
The K’ómoks First Nation is located in the heart of the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Membership is currently just over 300 members within four clans: Sahtloot, Saseetla, Ieeksun and Puntledge. Two cultures are identified within our community: Coast Salish (Island-Comox speaking peoples) and Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwak̓ wala speaking peoples). The K’ómoks First Nation originally occupied sites in Kelsey Bay between Campbell River and Port McNeill on Johnstone Straits, Quinsum, Campbell River, Quadra Island, Kye Bay and along the Puntledge Estuary—one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

2024 K'ómoks Festival 2024 being held 9AM to 7PM at 3535 Bayside Road is being coordinated through Comox Rocks—the team that organized the 2023 K'ómoks Festival—and a new Non-Profit Society. We welcome back the community for an exciting day of activities along the K'ómoks foreshore under the watchful guidance of Queneesh, the Comox Glacier & the Historic Opening Ceremony of Queneesh House. Gilakas'la—everyone is welcome!
