What a delight to get to spend time with Dr. Nancy Turner — beautiful soul full of curiosity and wonder at the ways of our being with the world.
Her research integrates the fields of botany and ecology with anthropology, geography and linguistics. We learned the names of many of the plants we know and love in the various tongues spoken by our cousins and delighted in the similarities and differences of the ways words and plants travel in trade, culture and time. We thank her deeply for spending time with all of us. It was so amazing to come together and share in her talk, From Taking to Tending: Looking after the Lands, Looking after the Plants at the 2025 West Coast Elders' Conference in Courtenay on the Traditional Territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. Gilakas'la mula, Nancy! You are a gem on this Earth! Comments are closed.
