We are thrilled to welcome waakiitusis Nitanis Desjarlais, the Indigeous Foodie Mamma to the West Coast Elders' Conference. She will be offering a workshop on Traditional Plants for Food and Medicine.
Nitanis’ ancestry stems from Northern Cree territory (Fort McMurray First Nation) and she was raised in the northwest coast (Tsimshian) territory. Nitanis has emerged as a gifted storyteller and videographer with many documentaries and artistic interpretations of indigenous issues and values. Her videos and films have been showcased internationally. Her current focus is placed upon her family and community within nuučaan̓uł territory. Nitanis avidly explores the diverse medicines and traditional foods. She shares teachings with a hands-on approach with communities and organizations and practices this craft with her children on a consistent basis as a way of life. waakiitusis Nitanis Desjarlais will be with us on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 for our afternoon workshops and programming.
